Album reviews: Translated from French to English with google translate.
From LEPETITCRITIQUE- Tonka If I tell you , what is the first image that comes to mind? Something in this style there? from now , you will forget all these pictures and childhood memories that you associate the word Tonka . A new artist came up with a self- financed album which will be binding on you and take all the space in your skull when listening. It will go even change the way you do hip- hop .
Very great words to say to me that is far from being a fan of the style , but believe me, every word is weighed and Trials And Tribulations deserves every flower that I throw . Here we have a man who grew up in tough neighborhoods Shaolin escaped and now a family. So he brings all his cultural background in the creation and funding of the album. Tonka proclaims that plays Metal Street and I must admit that it is a term that sticks to the music that is offered on Trials : A sometimes sound sometimes distorted guitar, frank words from the street and having not afraid of raw and aggressive especially palpable throughout listening.
Tonka seems to be a lot of heart and spits all his hatred of what does not work only in the music industry , but also in society in general. He talks about his origins , which denounces the Stars stopped beings artists, tells the injustices of a neighborhood where even the police refuse to go and explore other themes of the kind that we see in some of the artisans Lyrical Hip- hop . By cons , with some of these artists , we often searched words on a frame or background despicable enough , a lively music marred by words without souls and without rhythms. The beauty with Tonka , is to find the best of both worlds: Words rhythmic aggressive as needed without becoming easier and a soundtrack made of real instruments is thought and written to complement not only the words, but to dive the listener into the world of song and feel every emotion conveyed in his guts .
So if you 're the type to take your music seriously and appreciate the clever writing, honest and desired , then you have to get yourself Trials And Tribulations here . A $ 5 well spent.

From O.D. Productions- A New York native from Shaolin’s Parkhill Projects, Tonka started writing lyrics with his cousin (Dennis R.I.P.) when he was about 13 years old and fell in love with it. He started working with producers and writing songs. As he got older he started taking music serious. Since moving to New Jersey, he recreated his style by learning how to play live instruments, to create a style he calls Street Metal, and everything he has seen and lived has made its way into this new release TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS. Along with a few guest musicians scattered through out the project, Tonka paints images of the streets where he grew up and his former life upon them with words from his heart and soul, served up on thick beds of his influences from hip hop to metal to rock. This isn’t gangsta, this isn’t the same ol’, same ol’. This is a portrait of the real world as told by someone who lived it, not just watching it from the sidelines. There is no glorification of violence or drugs here. There is no silver spoon, or even a silver lining. This is the real shit, lived and survived, and a lesson to those who enter that you can rise above and make your own way. Stand out tracks include the title track TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS and I’M FROM. There is something here for anyone who is a fan of hip hop, hard rock, or metal, or for those who walked the streets in the shadows. 4.5 of 5

From Bard Constantine- Real Hip Hop If you remember when hip hop still had unique sounds and voices, then this is a neo throwback just for you. Tonka's sound is 'different', only if different means not mass produced in imitation of the popular sound. Filled with unorthodox sounds like mean guitar riffs and solos, but hip hop to the core. Standout tracks include the title song and On My Mind, but the entire album is worth being added to your playlist of REAL artists.
